Together At Every Step: Weston Park Cancer Charity take over Hillsborough this Saturday!

Weston Park Cancer Charity is set to take over Hillsborough Stadium this weekend as Sheffield Wednesday take on Huddersfield Town on Saturday 7 October in their next home Championship clash.

The special charity day forms part of the wider ‘Together At Every Step’ partnership with Barnsley Football Club, Sheffield Wednesday, and Sheffield United, which aims to raise awareness and funds for the charity.

The Together At Every Step campaign is now in its third season and our charity takeover day at Hillsborough this Saturday will be our first since Sheffield Wednesday was promoted back to the Championship.

The Owls players, will be warming up in our iconic Weston Park Cancer Charity t-shirts ahead of the game.

As well as our team of volunteers raising money ahead of kick-off, our brand-new Big Purple Bus will be parked up at the ground to welcome fans on board to chat to members of our teamabout the plans for the bus.

Darren Hayes, Head of Fundraising at Weston Park Cancer Charity, said: “We’re delighted to continue our Together At Every Step campaign into the new season with Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Sheffield United.

“We were overwhelmed by the support from our football communities since launching the Together at Every Step partnership through which we have raised over £23,000.

“Partnerships like Together At Every Step make such a difference to local people and our communities. They help us to enhance treatment experiences for people currently going through cancer – including funding for hospital ward improvements, entertainment and support for patients and so much more.

“We’re looking forward to our takeover day and we’re excited to be bringing our new Big Purple Bus to Hillsborough which will be on hand to welcome fans onboard to learn about the cancer support we offer within the region.”

Owls’ Head of Community, Marcus Brameld, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Weston Park Cancer Charity this Saturday as we continue our support in the Together At Every Step partnership.

“One in two people will face a cancer diagnosis, and the funds and awareness raised by initiatives like this go a long way to improving the lives of those diagnosed.

“I encourage all Wednesday fans to get behind this initiative and support Weston Park Cancer Charity in any way they can.”

If you’re heading down to the match on Saturday – you won’t miss us! We’ll be around the stands with our fundraising buckets, and also the opportunity to give by card should you not have any change!

If you are unable to make the match you can still get involved by donating by texting FOOTBALL to 70560 or by heading to https://together-at-every-step-partnership.raisely.com/

See you on Saturday Owls fans!
