Steve Wragg appointed as new Weston Park Cancer Charity Chair of Trustees
Steve will take over from Niall Baker, who is stepping down after 12 years as a trustee, with the last 3 serving as chairman.
Weston Park Cancer Charity is delighted to announce that Steve Wragg has been appointed as our new Chair for the Board of Trustees.
Steve joined Weston Park Cancer Charity as a trustee in 2020 and previously acted as Chair of our Corporate Services Committee and Lead for Treatment and Care Grants.
With years of experience in non-executive NHS roles, including as Chairman of Barnsley Hospital, Steve brings a wealth of knowledge to the board.
Steve will be taking over from Niall Baker, who is stepping down after 12 years as a trustee, with the last 3 serving as chairman.
Niall, who is Partner at Irwin Mitchell and Chair of IM Asset Management, provided brilliant leadership throughout his tenure.
The charity would like to sincerely thank Niall for his wise counsel, his tenacity, and his commitment to Weston Park Cancer Charity’s cause.
This month, four new trustees will also join the charity’s board: David Grey, David Thurkettle, Alison Clarke, and Amy Hallam. The new trustees are being welcomed after the recent merger between Weston Park Cancer Charity and Cavendish Cancer Care.
Speaking about his appointment, Steve Wragg said:
“I’m privileged and thrilled to be taking on this new role at a particularly exciting time for the charity.
“Having recently merged with Cavendish Cancer Care we can now offer even more services to people in our region who have been impacted by cancer. I’m looking forward to helping drive the charity to achieve its ambitious goals in the years to come.”
Niall Baker, outgoing Chair of the Board of Trustees said:
“It has been an absolute privilege to serve as Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Chair.”
“Everything that the charity does – from pioneering new research to addressing health inequalities – changes lives. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this important work and wish Weston Park Cancer Charity every success in the future.”
Emma Clarke, Weston Park Cancer Charity CEO, said:
“We’re thrilled to announce Steve’s appointment as Chair, and would like to congratulate him on his new role.
“We would also like to welcome David Grey, David Thurkettle, Alison Clarke, and Amy Hallam – who are all fantastic additions to our Board of Trustees.
“Steve joined us as a trustee at the start of the Covid pandemic and it was immediately clear that his calm, considered guidance would be a great asset for the charity.
“With an extensive amount of non-executive NHS experience, Steve’s stewardship will be invaluable as we strive to expand our services and continue to enable research, provide support and enhance treatment at Weston Park Cancer Centre.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to honour Niall Baker, who has been an integral part of the Weston Park Cancer Charity family for over a decade. We’re so grateful for the huge contribution he has made and can’t thank him enough for his years of service.”
Weston Park Cancer Charity’s trustees give their time for free and are responsible for the strategic direction and effective governance of the charity.
